DockerCon 16 Interviews

Towards the end of June, DockerCon 16 arrived in Seattle, and with it, came a number of awesome Container-related announcements, keynote demos, breakout sessions, community get-togethers and much, much more. Tickets for the event were hard to come by, so hard in fact, that yours truly has to go along as ‘Media’ – that’s right folks, roving reporter Matt McSpirit, at your service.

Whilst I couldn’t go along to the sessions, my ‘press pass’ did give me enough access to set up my portable studio equipment and capture a few interviews with a select set of folks from Docker, to talk about stuff ranging from the Docker community, the Container landscape, and Docker Store, through to Docker for Windows, Azure, and the new 1.12 release. Loads of Container goodness there for you.

Speaking of my portable studio equipment, thinking about it, it’s quite possible that my subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, which I use for editing all of the content you see from me on Channel 9, may actually cost more than the camera and audio equipment combined. A bit sad really, don’t ya think? What’s also clear from recording these videos, is that a LOT of people don’t look where they’re going when they are walking around a conference. You’ll see what I mean in a few of the videos!

Anyway, enough of me blabbering on – here’s the 6 interviews, nicely embedded for you, so enjoy.

The Ops Team #022 – “Sehr gut!”

The Ops Team is a (sometimes) weekly show where (occasionally) 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, it’s just Matt and the ‘DevOpsBoyz’ again, with Oguz operating the camera with sublime efficiency. No camera issues this week, so we can just focus on bringing you the latest in IT Professional news. This week, David brings us up to speed with some new integration with Visual Studio and Cloud Foundry, along with some cool stuff on Atlassian Bitbucket. Matt shares the on-prem news, focused on a recent Cloud and Datacenter event in Germany, a great RunAsRadio interview and awesome Hyper-V Containers on Windows 10 info. Oguz talks about Red Hat and Jenkins running on Azure, along with improvements to Redis Cache on Azure, and finally, Matt rounds out the show by sharing a new Orchestrator to OMS Automation migration tool, running your SQL licenses on Azure, and some new info around backup and site recovery.

The Ops Team #020 – “Rick’s Back!”

The Ops Team is a weekly show where 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, David, Oguz and Simon are MIA so Matt heads to building 43 on Microsoft campus, to track down minor celebrity and honorary member of the Ops Team, Rick Claus, to get the scoop on Azure, and more importantly, where the h*ll he’s been for the last few months. He doesn’t call, he doesn’t write…I digress. In the news, Rick brings us up to speed with new info on DevTest Labs, along with some useful info for those of you with an Enterprise Agreement. Matt gives us all the info we need to know on the latest technical preview, TP5, for both Windows Server 2016 and System Center 2016.

The Ops Team #019 – “Studio Upgrade”

The Ops Team is a weekly show where 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, the TriCaster (think fancy video recording equipment) has been stolen/borrowed by the Channel 9 team and has traveled to DevDays LATAM 2016, and as a result, David and Matt decide to record this episode of the Ops Team from a ‘real datacenter’…In the news, Matt brings people up to speed with a new free IT Pro subscription to enhance learning, along with announcing the general availability of the Azure Container Service. David spreads the word on microservices, mobile DevOps as well as some Visual Studio news. Finally, Matt wraps up with some on-prem awesomeness, specifically a new Microsoft Virtual Academy Course on Cloud-Enabled Protection, and a host of new video resources including a cool new Windows Server 2016 video series.

New MVA Course: Hybrid IT Management Part II – Cloud-Enabled Protection

You may recall a couple of months back, we announced the availability of the first in a series of Microsoft Virtual Academy courses designed to bring you up to speed with Hybrid IT Management. If you’ve forgotten what we mean when we say ‘Hybrid IT Management’, it’s the management, automation and protection of heterogeneous infrastructure, workloads, apps and services, on both Windows and Linux, across any cloud, regardless of whether it’s running in your datacenter, with a service provider, in the public cloud, on platforms such as Azure, or a combination of all of those. Now if that’s not a short definition, I don’t know what is.

The Ops Team #018 – “Bruised Banana”

The Ops Team is a weekly show where 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, further reconstruction work results in a change in angle for the security camera, and with Simon still on vacation (we think!) it’s left to Matt, Oguz and David to bring you up to speed with the latest news. Oguz shares the details on using Bash on Windows, and, in an Ops Team first, delivers a live demo! Which fails. David brings us up to speed with the latest news on Visual Studio, including Visual Studio Code and TFS enhancements. Finally, Matt wraps up with a ‘hybrid’ combined on-prem and Azure section, covering some cool stuff for Hyper-V, PowerShell for Docker, Azure Stack, Azure VM Scale Sets and more!

The Ops Team #16 – “Tricaster 101 with David”

The Ops Team is a weekly show where 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, after weeks of successful camera operations, David conveniently neglects to change the camera input for the first 50+ seconds of the show, so enjoy David’s desktop, please! In the news, Matt is on double duty AGAIN, as we still hunt for Rick’s replacement! For on-prem, he covers some SharePoint release news, along with an update for OMS. For Azure, he talks about Azure enhancements around Government, along with some cool new Docker innovations. Simon only has a single news topic, focused on Office and Configuration Manager. Finally, David gets the camera right in the end, and brings us up to speed with lots of DevOps related stuff.

The Ops Team is a weekly show where 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, the security camera is fixed (thanks to a new (old) video camera and some velcro cable ties), but unfortunately, Rick can’t make it into the studio to celebrate that fact, so it’s left to Matt, Oguz and Simon to give you the news. Don’t worry Rick-fans, we still get his news nuggets, by the power of editing!

In this week’s news…Oguz brings us up to speed with the latest developments with Application Insights. Matt gives you everything you need to know to get started with the Azure Stack, now that it’s finally with us (at least in technical preview form!) along with some cool new info on on-boarding Linux workloads into OMS. Rick shares some cool announcements around Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery and PowerShell, along with an insightful blog post from Mark Russinovich. Finally, Simon gives us the latest news on Azure RMS, and Configuration Manager!  Awesome stuff!

The Ops Team is a weekly show where 4 Technical Evangelists specializing in IT Operations get together to give you the deets on their 4 areas of expertise: Microsoft Azure/Cloud, On-premises datacenter technologies, Enterprise Mobility / Windows and DevOps.

This week on The Ops Team, there’s something seriously messed up with the security camera post-power outage, so if you’re wondering if your vision has taken a turn for the worse, or if you’ve had one too many alcoholic beverages prior to watching, fear not, it’s our sh**ty camera! Matt, David and Rick make it into the studio to give you the news, and in fact, so does Simon, just not at the same time as everyone else 🙂

In this week’s news…Rick shares some cool new Azure networking posters available for download, saves you some cash with Azure price reductions and evangelizes his ‘old’ job. David self-promotes his DevOps Dimensions show, and shares useful feature roadmaps for Visual Studio Team Services. Matt follows David down a road of self-promotion by sharing the latest episodes on the Containers Channel, whilst sharing some other useful community-delivered resources, and finally, Simon gives you the latest Intune gossip, all whilst ensuring no mice were awoken in the server room…
